Morey Amsterdam was a veteran saloon comic known as the Human Joke Machine. Television was a natural for him and he signed on in 1949 to host a self titled variety show, after being dumped from CBS. Of note was a young Art Carney, who went from a cast member to an unforgettable relationship with another Dumont host, Jackie Gleason. And the cigarette girl was no less than future pulp author Jacqueline Susann
